Checking to make sure that Maki's air is turned on before we enter the water to help certify a new group of SCUBA students. Maki and I met in 1990 in the Space Systems Lab. We have been inseparable friends ever since. We met in the early days of the lab at UMD. They were amazing times. The closeness, intensity, and sense of family in the lab at that time was a force that you would have had to experience to understand. Our dreams were larger than life itself... Within that group, Maki and I worked, played, and supported each other in success and failure. She has always been a great friend. Years of memories... The strange and tempestuous crossing of the Gulf Stream in the Bermuda Triangle, trying not to end up on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Playing cards and singing with her Mom and her Auntie. Learning Japanese in Huntsville. Camping and SCUBA diving in Myerstown. Summer trips to the beach, and coed doubles volleyball tournaments. After I met Heather, and she met Kenny, the four of us became great friends. We would go out on double dates, and have great times together. When Maki and Kenny got Married, I sang for their wedding.
